Functional Description

The X24640 operates via a simple 2-wire serial interface consisting of a serial clock (SCL) and serial data (SDA) line. The device supports standard I2C protocol with device addressing, allowing multiple devices to share the same bus. Memory operations include byte write, page write (up to 32 bytes), current address read, random read, and sequential read modes.

The write protection features offer multiple levels of security. The hardware write protect pin (WP) when activated prevents any modifications to the memory array. Software protection is implemented through block lock bits that can protect portions of the memory from modification. The device also features a write enable latch that must be set before any write operation can occur.

The self-timed write cycle eliminates the need for external polling or delay loops. During the internal write cycle, the device will not acknowledge commands, simplifying system design. An internal power-on reset circuit ensures proper initialization when power is applied.
