CD40175B Technical Summary

CD40175B - Quad D-Type Flip-Flop with Complementary Outputs

Overview

The CD40175B is a monolithic complementary MOS (CMOS) integrated circuit constructed with N- and P-channel enhancement mode transistors. It consists of four positive-edge triggered D-type flip-flops with both true (Q) and complement (Q̅) outputs available for each flip-flop. All flip-flops are controlled by a common clock (CLK) and a common clear (CLR) input. The device features wide operating voltage range, high noise immunity, and low power consumption typical of CMOS technology.

The CD40175B is part of the CD4000 series of CMOS logic ICs and is pin-compatible with many standard logic functions. It is available in multiple package options including PDIP, SOIC, and TSSOP.

Functional Description

The CD40175B contains four independent D-type flip-flops that share common clock and clear inputs. Each flip-flop has a data input (D), a true output (Q), and a complementary output (Q̅). The state of each flip-flop is determined by the data present at its D input during the positive-going transition of the clock pulse. The clear input, when taken low, overrides the clock and data inputs and resets all Q outputs low and all Q̅ outputs high.

Design Considerations

Power Supply Decoupling

A 0.1 μF ceramic capacitor should be connected between VDD and VSS pins, located as close to the IC as possible to minimize noise and voltage fluctuations.

Unused Inputs

All unused inputs must be tied to either VDD or VSS to prevent floating input conditions that could lead to excessive power consumption or erratic operation.
